Winter Coat Drive 2017

I had the awesome pleasure of collaborating with Bunny & Hare and B & H for their first annual winter coat drive. The winter coat drive began October 15th through November 30th. All of the coats received were donated to Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles.

Bunny & Hare creates custom high-fashion clothing and accessories for girls. This company is owned and ran by two amazing sisters Gabrielle Lewis and Lydia Ward. I have shared a great friendship with them since I was a small child, and have since admired the wives, mothers, and women they have become. You can imagine my feelings of excitement and honor in being considered to join in their effort to give to those in need.

I had experience with both volunteering and organizing community outreaches in my home church, while working closely with my church family. I felt a bit afraid and unsure about doing something like that on my own, at least so soon under the umbrella of my (very) new blog. As soon as received the message asking if I was interested, I couldn’t hesitate. I just knew one way or another things would come together. I eagerly put the word out about the coat drive, I began to share the coat drive by social media, video, and word-of-mouth. I asked all of my friends, family, and followers for their support and donations, and the response was awesome!

I am elated to share that collectively, we gathered about fifty coats! I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to be apart of such a great cause. I am glad that I have a chance to show and teach my children to care for and serve others. There is something miraculous that happens when we are both mindful and responsive to the needs of others. In those moments, through those actions, love is given, hope is revealed, and commonality is found at its most basic source, in our shared humanity.

During this time of year, it is easy to get lost in the buzz of gift-giving, what we don’t have and what we want, but let us all remember there are those in need. May we all find in our hearts find a way to give and make a positive impact in the lives of our communities. This is a way for us all to share sunshine with someone else.

I would like to personally thank every person who donated. A special thanks to Rena, Chanae, and my wonderful children Rhyan, Rhyse, and AJ for your contributions. I am looking forward to next year’s coat drive and to connecting with many more of you in giving even more.
